An interview with Jo Violin

Did you know that there are long lasting benefits of learning to play a musical instrument? Many parents wonder at what age they should sign their kids up for music lessons. In today's episode Jo Violin, a music educator and violinist, talks about the benefits of music and the profound impacts it has on the brain. She also shares part of her journey into becoming a violinist and music educator. Jo graduated from the University of Toronto with a Bachelor's degree in Violin Performance. Her performing career has seen her travel and play with many different orchestras and festivals in Spain, Italy, France, Germany, Canada and the United States. When she became a mother of active little boys, she searched for a music program for babies and toddlers that was fun, developmentally effective, and educational. Kindermusik met all the criteria she was looking for and offered more than what she thought was possible to achieve through an early childhood music program. Kindermusik brings families together and helps babies grow into happy, healthy, and thoughtful individuals. She immediately fell in love with the program and decided to become an educator herself. She has been teaching and spreading the love of music for more than 20 years, and becoming a Kindermusik educator was a natural path for her. Her passion for teaching children led her to complete Suzuki training. She is currently teaching violin at Sistema Toronto, positively impacting at risk youth through music education. She is a strong advocate of community support for young growing minds.
